Adoption of a Child


The Central Adoption Resource Agency (CARA) has laid down a procedure for child adoption. The process of adopting a child is time consuming with a lot of administrative formalities. LawWagon will take care of all the documentations and filings through an expert adoption lawyer.

Step-by-step Guide


Once you send in a request, our representative will get in touch with you to understand your requirements and will provide you a list of required documents.


You will be required to send the scanned copy of documents to us for verification.

As per your requirements, we will connect you to an expert adoption lawyer.

Application for Adoption

Once the documents are received, the lawyer will file the application for adoption with the Central Adoption Resource Authority (CARA).

Home Study

A social worker will visit your home and make a home study report, which will be submitted to CARA.

Children Profile

After approval of your application, you will receive profile of children who are available for adoption. You will be required to select your preferred child within 48 hours.

Post-Child Matching Formalities

Within 10 days of selection of child, the following steps will have to be undertaken:


  1. Pre-Adoption Foster Care: You will be required to take the child under pre-adoption foster care at your home.
  2. Petition for Child Guardianship Certificate: The lawyer will draft and file petition in Court for issuance of Child Guardianship certificate to the adoptive parents.


Issuance of Child Guardianship Certificate

Upon satisfaction of the Court, the Child Guardianship Certificate will be issued within 60 days from the date of filing of the petition.

Post-Adoption Formalities
